Kate Rusby

I dug out my Little Lights CD, and then thought I'd have a look at YouTube for some others:

random heart . ..

There is a Random Hearts blog, but its link day is THURSDAY, which I've been striving (and failing) to post for Theme Thursday. But, as Theme Thursday's rules have changed somewhat, I'm linking to Random Hearts today. A dear heart if ever there was one.

Monday, January 17

This is the poem for today in Poem A Day, ed. K. McCosker & N. Albery. It seems very appropriate:

I Am Not I

I am not I.
                     I am this one
Walking beside me whom I do not see,
Whom at times I manage to visit,
And at other times I forget.
The one who remains silent when I talk,
The one who forgives, sweet, when I hate,
The one who takes a walk when I am indoors,
The one who will remain standing when I die.

Juan Ramón Jiménez, translated by Robert Bly

Sunday plus: Nicole Krauss

On searching for information on Nicole Krauss, I discovered a lot of jealousy out there, critics praising her while bemoaning her privileged upbringing, her famous writer husband (Jonathan Safran Foer), etc. etc. But I just finished The History of Love, so wonderful it made me weep. Here she is talking about her new book, Great House.

new year

I will try to blog every day here, Helen and Betty. I just find it so very difficult to come up with a compelling narrative, or even a hook for readers to want to stop by and see what is going on. It is difficult with a soon to be post adolescent around. I'm trying to figure out where I belong in the new dynamic of family life. Nine is a different kettle of fish from 19, after all . . .
