we stayed up till 1am watching the US election results last night (with the rest of the world), and I'm pretty happy about the way things turned out. The future has suddenly got a little brighter. It was very interesting being here in Florida on election day, specially as Florida was one of the pivotal states.
Believe or not, but also I was waking after two a`clock every two hours for watching, how all is going there! My Pc was open the whole night! I am happy for you, perhaps also for us, if our big neighbour will not start something stupid testing.
we were up w/friends watching (after standing in a short (20 min.) line to vote at 6am-- 3 machines and only one was broken--) it was a very long long day, and by midnight we were falling down (plus drinking) at 2am we were zombies but still watching coverage from Euro News, Sky News, etc... the whole world is so happy. We got a few hours sleep before a party breakfast, and there's another party tonight. We all got verklempt several times too. I wish my dad ( a dedicated civil rights worker) had lived to see this, my mom too would have been thrilled by it all.
I think I felt a collective breath being let out this morning when people woke and found out that the dream was real and our next president is obama! obama!

now the real work begins... straightening up the MESS of an abomiNATION but if anything can do it, it will be the OBAMAnation!!!
It was so amazing to watch all of this unfold in the wee hours of the night in France. I woke up at 1am (French time) and only found a few screwy exit polls that looked really scary. Then went back to bed, got up at 4am, and from there on out it was sheer joy....
With the time difference, I had to give up at 3am (9pm East Coast), and was woken by my kids 2 hours later, who returned from their all-nighter, bearing happy news. From the news reports it looked as if all of Vienna was celebrating into the morning!

I am just beside myself today. I wore my obama shirt and buttons everywhere. It's no longer "we shall overcome." We HAVE overcome.

ReplyDeleteIt is brilliant isn't it? I listened to it live on the BBC radio, in the dark, in bed, very quietly crying with joy.
