Listen! the wind is rising,
and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings,
now for October eves!
--Humbert Wolfe, Autumn (Resignation)
O wild West Wind, thou breath of Autumn's being,
Thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead
Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing,
Yellow, and black, and pale, and hectic red,
Pestilence-stricken multitudes.
--Shelley, Ode to the West Wind
Thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead
Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing,
Yellow, and black, and pale, and hectic red,
Pestilence-stricken multitudes.
--Shelley, Ode to the West Wind
Words are like leaves; and where they most abound,
Much fruit of sense beneath is rarely found
--Pope

Nice and quotes too.
Your neighborhood???
I am most happy you prevailed!
a most poetic celebration of the theme!
the pope quote is perfect for a writer and editor to be mindful of! many thanks for that
Beautiful photos and I love the poems, too.
So glad that I inadvertently posted the right kind of pics today.
I love leaves.
Love the words and pictures!
I love it when "the air is wild with leaves". I especially love driving through that wild air!
Love autumn,so pretty, and the poetry, esp the last one!
What a nice post. What a season for enjoying poetry.
That last line of Pope's is so true, there is little sense in what is said aloud or written lately.
Ok this is a spring one but I really like it. By Basho from 17th century Japan...
A fallen flower
Returning to the branch?
It was a butterfly...
Nice. It's impossible not to love fall leaves.
I found some interesting leaves today.
lovely lovely
the pope quote is great.
i liked your shopping vid. too
:-)
(LOVE Northern Exposure)
Your pictures are beautiful.
My daughter flew in from Spain yesterday and she said England looked so beautiful from the air. All the dropped leaves looked as though they had been spray painted on.
Do you live amongst all this beauty? The photos are lovely but even more so in conjunction with the poetry. Studied Shelley way back in school but I'd never come across Humbert Wolfe before.
Re. the Mac. H. has started talking about getting one for work which means I'll inherit his old one. Huh!
You're surrounded by some lovely fall colors.
Gorgeous autumn colour, I so love this time of year.
Gorgeous---I'm rather envious, as we don't get Autumn colors here in central Texas. I mean, we would understand them if we had them---we aren't quite that dim.......all of the time.
Those "dead white guys" could really come up with great poems. Love the photos.
