Theme Thursday: Mirror

There are two ways of spreading light: to be
The candle or the mirror that reflects it.
–E. Wharton

Here it is, Theme Thursday again. I had such plans for this theme, too. Genes appearing as mirrors of ancestors, or more recently, grandmothers. The Distant Mirror of the Middle Ages. The silvering mirror in my bathroom that give back a ghostly sort of reflection.

Then, BANG! Thursday has whirled around the carousel of the week again and presented itself in front of me. Well, I can supply a link to a program I try to remember to listen to every Friday evening (or Sunday morning, whenever).

Ah! I love Barbara Tuchman's A Distant Mirror; great book!

The music program looks interesting. I'll have to give it a listen.

Are we the candle or the mirror? Or possibly hiding from both. -J

Tis alright - Thursdays can be sneaky little things. Reflections rarely require a mirror. And the ones that do I tend to shy away from these days...sigh...

At least you reflected upon what you would have done...and reflection is very mirror like. I'll accept it!

I'm sort of a tarnished mirror.

Is it bad luck to eat a mirror?

To be the candle or the mirror.
Not such a simple question, right?
Time flies.
No mirror can prevent that.

Thanks for the link - and happy TT. I know the feeling of Thursday just suddenly being there... while the blog post isn't always!

Sometimes, the best mirror I’ve got is my daughter’s eyes.

Thank you for the quote and your reflections about mirrors. With my recent study of genes, it is neat to think of them as mirrors of our ancestors. I never thought of it like that.

JeffScape said...

Hah! It happens to us all.

Darned intrusive real world. How dare it!

I know what you mean. Oh, the Thursdays I could theme if I just didn't have this pesky real world job.

Thanks for the link!

Great quote and I too never thought of our genes as a mirror although they do call it a gene pool and maybe they meant it as a reflection of us carrying on the looks of our ancestors. Or maybe they just meant a group of genes, but I like your idea better.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out. And it also seems to me like we just got the theme subject and then the posts start showing up on my RSS feed. I think I am always late with my post or others are early, but then I know it is because of the time zones, mostly.

Happy TT

God bless.

Your observation about our genes being the mirror of our ancestors strikes a chord with me. I've been thinking about my paternal grandfather who was such a type-A personality. And I've got that too. ack.
How have you been coping with winter so far?
