Thursday theme: Steps

I thought about lots of different kinds of steps; we take steps in the right direction (or wrong) every day, trying to do the right thing, trying to keep on a positive path. I thought about actual steps, and so my feet took me around my area, to some places I didn't realize HAD steps.

The first is a park in my town. It borders on a trail. Stacie reminded me of this park, which I rarely visit.

And overlooks the river and beyond

On the way to finding some steps, L caught someone working at cleaning the steps here:

Steps reflected, next to the aquarium:

Steps down, under the bridge, to the river walk:

More steps, right next to the river:

leading to this, which I've never really looked at. I had thought it had a function, just seeing the top of the spume from the road, but this seems to be a sculpture; some of the pipes are of different colors, made from different metals. Seven for the seven Cherokee clans?

The glass bridge across the highway, from the museum to the walking bridge; sometimes pretty scary to look down:

A view from it toward the river walk:

Stepping along the walking bridge:

Going home? I remember lugging along someone, just like this, on a hot summer day, not too long ago, either:

Lovely steps! Sometimes when I'm not sure I'm on my own path, I draw eyeballs on the bottoms of my feet (at the first point on the Kidney meridian, tucked up against the ball of the foot, dead center). That way I figure my feet can see the steps unfolding before me.

Beautiful pics! Thank you.

I enjoyed meandering along these many paths and steps with you - and I agree that glass bridge might seem a bit frightening - I don't think we could have something like that outside up here on the north coast! can you imagine it covered with snow or ice! talk about increasing one's risk of having a fall!

wow-- your first words made me think of how reluctant we can be to retrace our steps when we're going in the wrong direction. It's the smart thing to do, go back and start over to avoid getting more lost... but often people would rather just hurriedly forge ahead on the wrong path. We need to slow down and not run with the herd, not be afraid to turn around and go back and make a fresh start.

this step theme is starting to make me think!

Isn't it neat when you choose to focus on something specific, and how many times it will show up in your day....

Cool!

The last photo and your comment are very poignant. I think every mother feels what you said.

Dennis has steps in his house.

Dennis can relate to caring for a child. Dennis made sure Eddy did not use the steps in his house until he was big enough.

Wow! Those are a lot of steps! I especially like that odd fountain -- you've definitely got to wonder what the designer had in mind. (I like the Cherokee option, though.)

That glass bridge is beautiful. It looks as if it might get a little slippery when it rains, though.
I love the sculpture of the man sitting, too. I only saw it because I looked through the photos a second time. Funny, how you can miss something big that's right in front of you, the first time you look!

Oh, I love the flat metal man who functions as his own chair. Brilliant.

And the walking bridge; those trees with their own little square grass plots: the whole combination of the built and the natural.

What a beautiful place you live in...I love the views from the park down into the gorge but the glass bridge is pretty amazing too though I'd feel too dizzy to look down.

I like the idea of this post, steps. Nice pix, too.

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.

I missed the sculpture too: it's natural to look down when viewing a pic (to read the caption I suppose) and the man is quite high up on his plinth.

Looking through the pics a second time, there he was.

I wonder if the sculpture has a name and who the sculptor is?

Sally:

The sculptor's name is Jim Collins, and I was surprised to discover he lives in the same town I do. He has lots of "watchers" around town. Maybe I should capture some of them for a post. They are very folk-arty.
