Cold?

I spent the better part of my 20s and a fair amount of my 30s stamping around with cold feet in a cold New England winter in my old Maine Hunting Boots from LL Bean (bought back when LL Bean was a stop for hunters/fisherpersons, and not the grotesquery it has become; but I digress). Until I found, at Averys Store, nirvana: Sorel boots (fabriqué au Canada; at least mine are). Good to –27°F. Averys also has the best owners on Earth and the best meat counter, too. Plus any kind of hardware you may require and the most helpful proprietor to help you find just the right bolt. But I digress again.

my boots . . .

Around here, what passes for brrr weather is usually laughable (ha! you hat- and mitten-wearers out on a 45°F sunny day; pansies). But I've got to say, it is frigid out right now. I don't know if it is because the buildings and houses just aren't made for any kind of lengthy period of temps well below freezing, but I'm chilled. As a matter of fact, I can feel a breeze right now, in the room we call the office, as I type this.

But my feet will be warm when I venture out tomorrow . . . Now I just need to locate my mittens.

L's OTHER new boots . . .

I bought a pair of black snow boots to go to Buffalo last year. I like them - under pants they don't even look like snow boots. But we don't get much call for them around here.

Okay I am still wearing my sandals around here. Maybe I should get my sneakers out, but I like my toes to be free. It did get down to 48 tonight, but it is supposed to be over 75 today, so it is still a sandal day.

I really do like those boots you got, maybe some day I will see about getting a pair. Just because they are so cool looking and maybe I would be more willing to go visit the snow in the mountains. But it does look so cold. BRRRRRRRR

God bless.

I moved to Michigan as a teenager during one of their worst winters on record. I remember walking to school in below freezing temps wearing my California clothes because my dad was too cheap to get us new clothes. I remember the wind would make my eyes water, then the tears would freeze in my eyes. Good times.

Most painful thing Ive ever felt: my own hands thawing.

Oooh, they look so cosy- could do with some of those over here right now!

This sounds like a place to shop! And as far as the cold, I'm well adapted( so long as the wind isn't blowing too hard ). But then I spend most work-nights in a freezer, anyway ;)

And yeah, I'm one to walk round in a tee when it's in the upper 30's...

I hate cold feet!

you boots look both warm and attractive.

I inherited em's uggs which are warm and toasty, although I never wear them when I am out on a wander as I don't find them particularly well suited for walking (at least not the type of fast walking that's my norm) - for winter walking I perfer my hiking boots which have good traction - slipping is always my biggest fear.

hey great going - you are 6 for 6!! it's not just your baking I'm admiring!
well, also your fb scrabble playing - but really will you quit kicking my ass!

The chill is on here too -- predicting under 20° temps and some snow. A bit has fallen already.

Today was Wordless Wednesday for me, so I got a slight reprieve from looking for inspiration!

Keep on keeping on...

Is LL Bean a grotesquerie? (Is that how you spelled it?)

They do sell a lot of stuff, but it's all top notch and lasts forever. And if it doesn't, they'll replace it, always. I'm a big fan, I guess. But maybe it was better before.

I used to wear Sorels at Tahoe.

Sorry you're freezing! Glen says it's 13 degrees in Texas where he lives! What is going on??? Whoa.

Hope you find your mittens!

Reya, LL Bean is a far cry from what it was in 1975, let's put it that way.
