Jewelry

Yesterday, Stacie had L and another girl over to her studio for an earring-making session. I think both learned a lot; I certainly did, about tools and terms. I had no idea what a jump ring was (the other mother was much more savvy), but now I not only know what it is, I know the correct way to open and close one! Stacie helped the girls all afternoon, picking beads, deciding on a design, helping them twist the wires. It was a wonderful one-on-one tutorial and it opened up a desire in L to get more involved in making something. I think she's quite pleased with these. And she took the photos, too!

What a lovely story of the truly satisfying nature of designing and making by hand.

I took a silversmithing course once - a really short course - but I learned to transform these not very exciting looking strips of metal into silver rings, one of which I still wear.

The satisfaction of making jewellery never fades: just like the jewels themselves.

I could use a tutorial on jump-rings myself. Come on over. I'll supply the wine.

--it must be great to make your own jewelry. I love buying handcrafted earrings but never thought how nice class would be. Will have to seek out a class this year. My first resolution!

Oh yes, these earrings look great.
I took a jewellery course last year, just one day, but I had such a good time, and came home with some pieces that i really like.
