the fruits of my labor!

Recipe above from Canal House:


tomatoes and pickles; the pickles are made from the huge cucumbers that lurk under the leaves and are as big as you calf.

I love canal house! I have you read Gabrielle Hamilton's Blood, Bones and Butter? That lead me to Canal House. I'm in hot pursuit of vol 1, 2 and 3 now that i have 4 and 5.

Oh my, I am drooling! I used to make all my own preserves... grew the veg myself etc, but I don't have a garden any more.... or a big family to feed.
It all looks SO YUMMY!

Wow. This makes me very hungry. Fortunately I'm going to an open air market tonight and should be able to eat some yummy local fare.

I've been craving Brussels sprouts for the past six months, so I've been eating them several times a week. I've also learned how to spell them. Before that, collard greens - especially the stems.
