Hey

I was in the grocery store the other day, explaining to my checkout friend that yes, I did actually work (she assumed I was a woman of leisure). When I told her what I did, she said, "Hey, I went to school for that! I wish I could do that, too!"

Who knew copy editors were cool? I am bound and determined to see the up side. Yes, I know it's an uphill battle for me, but still . . .

Are my projects all fascinating? Absolutely not.

Do I have more coming in than I know what to do with? Absolutely!

Do I learn something new every day? Definitely!

Am I stuck in traffic? Never!

I need a good dictionary. Would you believe it someone STOLE my Chambers dictionary 5 years ago..? They cost about £35 new these days, so I'm not surprised, but still... how pathetic can you get.
Chambers is by far the best single-volume dictionary you can get in British English. Published in Edinburgh, it's full of obscure Scots words... very funky. The official dictionary of Scrabble as well...

Bound and determineD, methinks :)

I also rather envy your job at times, I must admit. You see, I don't own the Chicago Manual of Style...

that's what I get for speeding through the posting process! Not a good recommendation for my abilities! Thanks, Betty.

Chambers WAS the official dictionary of Scrabble. Is no longer. For some reason...

I wanna get a nice job. Translator sounds good. Found a course. In Germany. I need really good German to get on, so I'm telling myself not to be lazy and clicking the Deutsch button on wikipedia all the time...

You can send some work my way as well as I have actually done both copy editing and writing, and for me, the temp job will end next week...

I can poke around and make some additional dictionary recommendations if you like...
